CONSTRUCTION AGENCY WORKING FOR EXTRA WIDENING OF CARRIAGE WAY ON GHUMARWIN BERTHIN TALAI ROAD SHOULD FOLLOW DESIGN PARAMETERS OF RADIUS OF THE CURVES AND WIDTH TO BE DISTRIBUTED AT PARTICULAR REDUCED DISTANCE, SO THAT ADEQUATE VISIBILITY BE MAINTAINED

It was an occasion today on 5-9-2026 when visited Ghumarwin via Sunhani from home place , where the work of the GTB road related to extra widening was in progress and wearing coat on the extra width proposed for the extra widening was laid , however it is revealed that construction agency was taking no care of the design considerations, so required for the improvement of visibility, where in extra widening should be equally distributed on the inner and outer sides and it may be on the inner side only in the case of sharp curves with radius of less than 60 metres. Where transition curves are not used, all widening is added to the inside edge of the pavement. For pavements wider than the standard width, ie, 3.75 m for single lane and 7.00 m for two lane roads values should be reduced by excess over the standard width and negative values are to be ignored. For pavements narrower than the standard width, values should be correspondingly increased. Widening should be equally distributed on the inner and the outer side, except in the case of sharp curves of radii less than 60 metres, where the widening should be effected on the inner side alone. The widening will start at the beginning or tangent point of the transition curve and progressively increased at a uniform rate till the maximum designed widening is reached at a point in the transition curve, where the full designed superelevation is reached, there after the same widening will be continued till a similar point in the farther transition is reached, where the designed superelevation starts reducing. Recommendations for widening of carriage way at curves based on the captioned subject Radius of curves upto 20 m, 0.9 m for the single lane and 1.5 m for the double lane and for radius (21 to 40) , it would be 0.6 m for single lane and 1.5 m for double lane , (41to60) m radius it would be 0.6 m for single lane and 1.2 m for the double lane (61 to 100.) m there is no extra widening for the single lane however it would be 0.9 m for the double lane and in the case of (101 to 300) m it would be 0.6 m for two lanes. As such construction agencies are responsible to improve the existing standard of the pavements width as per guidelines recommended by the IRC referred above for widening of carriage way at curves:--- Er Fateh Chand Guleria Director RTI welfare Association registered number HPCD, 3552 , Bilaspur Himachal Pradesh phone number 9459334377
