DIRECTIONS OF THE NATIONAL GREEN TRIBUNAL TO STATE GOVT OF PUNJAB, HARYANA, H.P AND UT CHANDIGARH AND REQUIRED ACTION BY THE SYSTEM FOR SERVICE:-- The NGT has issued directions to the state of HP and others to stop the pollution in the choes and to treat the sewerage water in the whole failing which entire responsibility determinates with the concerned government. In the previous directions of the NGT it has directed Chief Secretaries of the above mentioned states and the the UT administration to constitute a special task force to clean the Ghaggar river . It also ordered the administration to follow the enviornmental protection as prescribed by the study of protocol mentioned in the ruling of 1986 and provide standard emission of pollutants for different industries as laid down in the schedule 1. The findings of the joint inspection report are related to the values of parameters such as  biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS) . The committee found it necessary to release the treated  water with much higher (BOD) than permissible level of of 30 mg per litre. The (BOD) is the quantity of dissolved oxygen needed by the aerobic biological organism required to break down organic material at the specific temperature. It is necessary to stop the flow of untreated water ,faecal coliform,lead and iron beyond the permissible limits at most of the locations in Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh where it's treatment has been accessed.
