CODE OF PRACTICE FOR EARTH QUAKE RESISTANT CONSTRUCTION IS:4326-1976 MAY BE FOLLOWED FOR SPECIAL FEATURES.
Design in reinforced concrete implies an understanding of the behaviour of plain concrete , reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete . Extensive experimental research on different aspects of the behaviour of reinforced and prestressed concrete members and structures have change the concept of design during the past fifty years however statistics and probablistic theory has provided a more scientific basis for the evaluation of material properties, loads and factor of safety .The research is reflected in the latest revision of the code of practice for plain and reinforced concrete IS :456-1978 and the code of practice of prestressed concrete IS :1343 -1980.These codes place more emphasis on providing sufficient strength and ductility besides satisfactory serviceability requirements of cracking and deflection in concrete structures. Both these codes are based on the principles of limit state design rather than working stress design .For earthquake resistant construction code for practice IS :4326 -1976 selected specifications from CP 110 -1972 and ACI 318 -1977 are included with special features .
