GOVERNMENT OF INDIA HAS STARTED QUALITY AUDIT OF THE NATIONAL HIGHWAYS , ADHERING TO THE DESIGN &DPR ,AS WELL AS THE CODE FOR CONSTRUCTION LAID DOWN BY THE IRC AND OTHER INDIAN STANDARDS GIVEN BY THE GOVERNMENT TO AGENCIES.

In a first of its kind move , amid the accelerated  pace of highway construction and concerns over whether contactors are adhering to Quality specifications, the road transport ministry has taken a first of its kind step to carry out audit of construction quality and safety aspects of completed and under construction reaches of the highway construction. To begin with the move the Ministry has appointed the six independent experts to examine different reaches of the flagship Chardham project in the Utterakhand state .The government official said the said system would be institutionalised for the highway construction to ensure that the road projects are at par with the quality parameters described in the Design&DPR of the authority and tendered by the government authorities in this behalf.According to the ministry's order the experts have been tasked to review the official set up of the authority Engineers, including the competence of the technical expertise responsible to take work at the site of work. As such the independent Engineers have a big role in ensuring that there is no compromise in the Quality of works and required safety features in a project orientation scheme and works continued at various reaches of the proposed roads .The payment of the contractors must be released after appropriate test check and certificate of the specifications.It has been desired by the National highway construction authorities and the ministry of the department that NH are expected to be of the high quality and with the better features considering the standard laid down for such roads by the IRC code and specifications as well as other relevant IS standards time to time highlighted by the Committee of Engineering Department working on the captioned subject matter deliberation required to be maintained for the quality control and performance of the good achievements and the high investments.
